Do you know John Brown ? The father of 20 children, born in 1800 into a family that believed that slavery was an offense against God, joined the colony of freed slaves from North Elba in upstate New York in 1848. He became friends with writer abolitionist Frederick Douglass .

His coup in the armory of the village of Harpers Ferry, Virginia , leads to his loss, he was hanged on December 2, 1859 .
