Feature: The 1994 Genocide in Rwanda

Between April and July 1994 near 800,000 Tutsis and Hutu moderates Rwanda's exterminated in a few weeks, before the eyes of the international community. Carefully prepared by pro-government extremists in place (including the famous Interahamwe ) supported militarily by France and to close out the country's "cockroaches" was talking about all day long the fatal Radio Thousand Hills, this genocide has indeed not been prevented by the international community. The recent film Hotel Rwanda shows the impotence of peacekeepers present to act for lack of resources and clear UN mandate.
Genocide ended with the victory of the armed opposition led by the RPF of Paul Kagame, now president of the Republic. The French army then intervened (the famous and controversial Operation Turquoise) for humanitarian purposes, which may drain the main perpetrators of genocide to the neighboring Zaire (now Congo).

See links to explore these issues in the case , including the maintenance has given us Jean Hatzfeld on the occasion of the release of his latest book on Rwanda. Find also in the summary a timeline, books, movies, comics, links.
